Yozora Mel's Contract Terminated, Khashiu to Represent Watame from February

17 January 2024 — In a shocking turn of events, Cover Corporation has terminated the contract of Yozora Mel, a beloved virtual YouTuber from Hololive's first generation, citing violations of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). This decision not only impacts the virtual entertainment world but also sends ripples through the Adak-RMS Organization's (ARO) Japanese Racing Series, affecting both Hololive GT3 and Formula Hololive.

Following the contract termination, the ARO has announced the immediate retirement of both Yozora Mel cars from active competitions on X, leaving Maldivian driver Mohamed Khashiu's driving status initially uncertain. The ARO has swiftly responded by appointing Khashiu as the driver for Tsunomaki Watame, replacing temporary driver Keiko Takaboshi and previous full-time driver Aran Mazi from February onwards.

These changes are significant as the 2024 Formula Hololive Japan Qualifiers are potentially set to commence at Sepang, followed by Round 3 of the 2024 Hololive GT3 Japan Series Qualifiers at Okayama on February 17.

Mohamed Khashiu, who represented Yozora Mel since 2022, faced a period of uncertainty after the sudden contract termination. While not achieving the same level of success as some of his counterparts, Khashiu has been commendable, putting up decent performances for Yozora Mel. His best finish, a 3rd place in two races in 2022, showcased his capability on the track.

Yozora Mel, a senior member of Hololive's first generation, made her debut on 13 May 2018. Until her contract termination, she accomplished several milestones, including releasing an album in November 2022 and at least 7 singles as a lead singer. Beyond her singing career, she participated in four Hololive Festivals from 2020 to 2023, captivating audiences with her live performances. Notably, she appeared in the 1st Gen concert "From 1st" in 2021 alongside her fellow 1st Gen members. Her departure leaves behind a legacy of sweet memories and impactful moments for the entire Hololive community and her dedicated fans, known as the Kapu-min.

The void left by Yozora Mel's departure will undoubtedly be felt in both the virtual entertainment and motorsport realms, marking the end of an era of Hololive and ARO Racing, potentially paving ways for new faces to take Mel's place.
