Bowmanville, Ontario, 18 May 2024 – The Formula Hololive International season is heading into its penultimate round at the historic Mosport circuit, where the Ontario GP promises to deliver another weekend of high-octane action and strategic brilliance. Following an attritional race at Spielberg, the championship dynamics have shifted, placing even more emphasis on the final two rounds coming up.
The Spielberg GP at the Red Bull Ring showcased the unpredictable nature of racing, with Aziz Muazif seizing his first victory of the season. This win catapulted him to the top of the championship standings, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the season. Jake Martinez, who started from pole, was enroute to finish at least on the podium but was ultimately spun out on the final lap, losing crucial points.
Spielberg GP Highlights:
- Jake Martinez started from pole but faced early challenges from Shawn Goh and a collision involving de Oliviera and Corey-Rico Mendez.
- Liam Kai's strategic pit stop on Lap 9 saw him take the net lead, only to crash out after a collision with Shawn Goh on Lap 66.
- Takeda Adachi and debutant Dawn Elys both experienced DNFs after dramatic spins in intense three-wide battles.
- Martinez spun out on the final lap, leading to his DNF and allowing Muazif to clinch victory.
Here are the FHolo INT 23-24 Championship standings with 2 races to go for the Top 6.
1. Aziz Muazif - 975 points
2. Zeke Wimberley - 791 points
3. Jake Martinez - 778 points
4. Takeda Adachi - 708 points
5. Juani Castanto - 603 points
6. Angela Sims - 597 points
As the season heads to the Ontario GP at Mosport today, the championship battle intensifies with six drivers still in contention. The Mosport circuit, known for its fast, sweeping corners and elevation changes, will challenge drivers' skills. And as any other race, strategy will be at play.
Leading the standings, Muazif's confidence will be high after his Spielberg win. If he finishes ahead of his rivals AND finish in the Top 4, he will be crowned as the 2023-24 Formula Hololive International Champion. It's also a case of one hand on the title with Muazif's string of consistent finishes since Round 2 at Phillip Island, as he finished no lower than 4th since then (excluding the Capture the Moment GP @ Fuji).
Wimberley is still a serious threat after three victories this season. In order to effectively challenge Muazif with the latter's buffer, he needs to win the remaining two races.
Martinez has shown quick thinking and resiliency in spite of the Spielberg setback. To remain in the running for the title, he needs to bounce back fast with victories and/or podium finishes.
Adachi hopes to atone for his DNF in Austria. His chances of winning the championship are slim, but strong finishes are essential.
Although Juani Castanto and Angela Sims have shown promise, they will need to perform exceptionally well in the last rounds AND hope that their opponents are eliminated in order to contend for the title.
The Ontario GP will also see five new full-time entrants, representing Hololive English's newest generation, Advent:
-Yu Chae-Yon (#90 Shiori Novella)
-Mohd Shazren Redza (#14 Koseki Bijou)
-Ryan Kagawa (#76 Nerissa Ravencroft)
-Nichi Michan (#25 Fuwawa Abyssgard, part of the Fuwamoco team)
-Shaneil Marcman (#52 Mococo Abyssgard, part of the Fuwamoco team)
These new drivers will add fresh competition and excitement to the grid, potentially shaking up the standings and dynamics of the race, in addition to assist any probable upsets as they would be eligible to score points and steal them from the championship rivals.
Every point matters in the 2023–24 Formula Hololive International season, as there are just two rounds remaining. A pivotal point in the championship race is expected to occur at Mosport during the Ontario Grand Prix. Will rivals catch up to Aziz Muazif, or will he maintain his lead? A thrilling new round of racing is something that fans everywhere are looking forward to. Watch the drama unfold on May 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM local time for the Ontario GP.
