Golden Week Showdown: Okayama 400 Set to Shape Title Race as Kurashio and Saerin Trade Blows

Okayama, May 1 — The 2026 Hololive GT3 Japan Series enters a critical phase this weekend as the championship heads to Okayama International Circuit for the Okayama 400, Round 3 of 4 in this year’s campaign. Held during Japan’s Golden Week festivities, the event will feature two races across Saturday and Sunday, both scheduled to start at 10am JST, in what is expected to be a defining weekend in the title battle.

At the forefront of the championship stands Rustim Kurashio, representing La+ Darknesss in the #39 Nissan GT3. Kurashio arrives at Okayama with a slender two-point lead after a remarkably consistent run through the opening rounds, having already amassed 982 points. His ability to consistently extract maximum results has made him the benchmark of the field, though the margin leaves little room for error.

Close behind is Saerin, driving for Otonose Kanade in the #59 Ferrari 296, who sits just two points adrift on 980. Saerin has arguably been one of the most dynamic performers this season, combining outright pace with aggressive racecraft, and will view Okayama as a prime opportunity to overturn the deficit and seize control of the championship heading into the finale.

The chasing pack remains within striking distance, led by Vladislav Domaschnev in the #19 Lexus RC-Ffor Aki Rosenthal. With 890 points, Domaschnev has shown flashes of race-winning speed but will need a near-perfect weekend to re-enter the title fight. Similarly, Danilo Goyena, representing Usada Pekora in the #11 Honda NSX, sits fourth with 744 points and remains a dangerous contender, particularly given his ability to capitalize on chaotic race conditions.

Jake Goodwin, in the #30 Honda for Ookami Mio, rounds out the top five on 728 points. While slightly further adrift, Goodwin has demonstrated strong pace in prior rounds and could play a pivotal role in influencing the outcome of the championship battle at the front.

Further down the order, Raijin Kacyznski in the #74 Lexus for Yuzuki Choco and Chaka Labradores in the #7 Lexus for Natsuiro Matsuri continue to lead a tightly packed midfield, where positions remain highly fluid. Callum Gibbens, representing Roboco in the #64 Lexus , and Mohamed Khashiu in the #3 Lexus for Tsunomaki Watame also remain within the top ten, all of whom are still mathematically capable of climbing higher with strong results at Okayama.

One of the standout storylines heading into the weekend is the resurgence of Sammy Ake in the #22 Nissan for Shirakami Fubuki. After a difficult start to the season, Ake’s breakthrough win in Race 2 in the previous round has propelled the entry into 13th overall, signaling a potential late-season surge.

Meanwhile, the lower half of the standings remains highly competitive, with drivers such as Maverick Deuxieme (#46 Nissan, Omaru Polka), Rey Mark Rosales (#20 Nissan, Shiranui Flare), and Allie Jay (#51 Lamborghini, Kikirara Vivi) all seeking to convert flashes of pace into consistent results. For many, the Okayama weekend represents a final opportunity to salvage their campaigns before the season finale.

With two races on offer and a maximum points haul available, the Okayama 400 presents one of the most pivotal weekends of the season. The tight and technical nature of the circuit is expected to reward precision and consistency, placing added pressure on drivers to avoid costly mistakes.

As Golden Week celebrations unfold across Japan, the spotlight will firmly be on Okayama, where the 2026 Hololive GT3 Japan Series could see its championship battle either blown wide open or firmly decided.
