Spielberg, Austria, 29 April 2024 - Round 8 at the legendary Red Bull Ring saw the Formula Hololive International season soar to unprecedented levels of excitement and unpredictableness. With just two rounds left in the championship, Aziz Muazif leads the standings after his first victory of the year at the Spielberg GP, which was an exciting spectacle.
Jake Martinez for Mori Calliope started the race in pole position, giving the championship leader hope. On the other hand, the first lap set the tone for an unpredictable race. Shawn Goh, driving for Gawr Gura, aggressively challenged Martinez into Turn 1 after starting second. When KFP's Corey-Rico Mendez and Merakyat representative de Oliviera collided, the drama grew more intense, but both drivers were still able to continue.
On Lap 9, Liam Kai of Hakos Baelz executed a perfect pit stop and used an undercut strategy to take the lead in the race. It was a tactical masterstroke. His reign of supremacy on the track, though, came to an end on lap 53. Takeda Adachi of the Takodachis spun out at Turn 1 in a three-wide battle, and on Lap 62, Mumei representative Ethan Berthelsen collected him, resulting in Adachi's DNF.
A similar fate befell rookie Dawn Elys, who was driving for Kureiji Ollie, whose race ended prematurely on Lap 65 after she spun out at Turn 1 following another dramatic three-wide incident. On Lap 66, Liam Kai, who had been leading since the pit stop cycle, collided with driver Shawn Goh, who was gaining ground on Kai. This ended Kai's race and gave the lead back to Martinez.
Martinez appeared to be ready to increase his lead in the championship as the last lap started. But in a stunning twist of events, he spun out upon making contact with Ethan Berthelsen, which led to Martinez being given a DNF.
Martinez's hopes were shattered by this incident, and Berthelsen suffered damage to his rear wing as well, though he was still able to limp to the finish.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Aziz Muazif made his way through the carnage to win the Formula Hololive International series for Ayunda Risu for the first time. Angela Sims achieved an excellent second place, and Vestia Zeta rookie Javier Lusby made a strong impression by placing third on the podium.
With Muazif's victory, the championship battle has been reshaped dramatically:
Aziz Muazif - 975 points
Zeke Wimberley - 791 points
Jake Martinez - 778 points
Takeda Adachi - 708 points
Juani Castanto - 603 points
As the season heads to the Ontario GP at Mosport on May 18, 2024, the stakes have never been higher. With Muazif now leading the championship by 184 points, Muazif has a chance to wrap up the title with one race in hand at Ontario. The final two rounds will be sure to deliver as the season is about to come to a close, with 6 drivers remaining to be able to grab the first title for Formula Hololive International.
